Bad tastes about children and sex in Ad

Source(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_841F7HqCks)

This Super Bowl Commercial is for Doritos chip and portrays a young couple played by no less than 10 year old children. One little boy played the role of husband, coming home from work as usual with an unnatural and indifferent adult look on his face, “Honey, I am home.” Then a particular sound of his wife came out from the bedroom and this sound seems to make the little husband suspect his little wife (played by a little girl) of having sex related issues. Along his suspicion and the sound of trembling bed as well as his wife’s last sentence, “emmm, that’s nice”, this little anxious husband couldn’t help but entered into their bedroom, totally shocked by the scene before him. His wife is eating Doritos Chips and jumping up and down on the bed. Maybe her husband is jealous of her eating such a tempting food or maybe he think it’s not appropriate to eat food on bed, he finally put, “Get out!”, even though his wife told him gently, “Baby, it is not what you look like!” and finally his wife said, “You had a small bag, anyways.”

This commercial was inappropriate and it capitalized on children to indirectly send out sex signals, with an intention to pull in audience’s eyes. Advertisers may protest that they did not show any particular scene or language directly about sex. Audience may find fun from this adverting since they are played by children.

However, this advertising is tasteless and offensive to parents.

Children are supposed to be childish, and that’s the beauty of being a child.

Most young people without a child may find this adverting very funny, but parents wish their children to be grown up in a positive environment where no sex and fight involved.

In this ads, we can see very obviously that the sound of the trembling bed indicate what’s going on between men and women. At the end of the ads, the girl said, “You had a small bag, anyways!” It’s clear that the little boy dropped his briefcase when he entered the living room, and he carried nothing when he entered into their bedroom, so apparently the bag had another implicit meaning, as evidenced by the look from his wife. Children may not know exactly from what their parent know, but they are the exactly group which can imitate. This imitation would leads to further inappropriate behavior.

For another, affected by his ads, children may begin to wonder, the relationship between Mom and Dam is like this: Dad come home from work and can yell to his wife if he want. This will shape children’s perspective on their future relationships in a negative way. In this sense, this commercial is a little bit unethical, it involved seducing children to imitate bad behaviors.

I believe the original intention of advertiser is to attract people’s attentions and increase sales volume by seducing and waking the sexual element of people’s nature. Almost everyone average person are driven by the physical things: sex, food, money. We need them without questions, but pursuing them just for the sake of itself brings not happiness for us. We are human beings, we have higher pursuit, we love to care for people who in need and to contribute to society in our ways. Food or sex is only part of our life and their purpose is to stay healthy and have good relationships with spouse and to take more responsibility. Therefore, I believe the ads are not effective at all. It downgrades our taste and insults our intelligence.

Can you smell absurd and discrimination in this ad?

It is a commercial of DIRECTV, very short but really shocks us. It is also one of the DIRECTV’s series commercials in 2012. There are common points like the aside that “When your cable …. You….; When you….. You…..” and the changes of scenes with the aside, in these DIRECTV’s commercials. We can see its contents are easy that told consumers the bad cable TV shows can give them an unhappy result so they should choose the DIRECTY. This is the only appeal of this commercial. Audience like seeing an unbelievable story then the DIRECTV will appear in the last.

Some of people may like that but we really hate this commercial. Why we choose this commercial? First, we did not see any reasonable logic in this commercial. You have a grandson with a dog collar just due to your cable? It is impossible. That is so absurd and cannot persuade us to change our choices. It tries to attack cables but just make us laugh. The bad logic and lack of persuasion make this commercial so powerless to consumers. Even, the consumer may hold opposed ideas toward DIRECTV.

Second, this commercial is offensive because it obviously and overtly defame the young people whose study is not good or with strange attires. Also, it stereotype to these kinds of young people. These people can be good persons, though they do not like study or like strange attires. So we think these they will get angry when they see this commercial. If their families want to choice the DIRECTV instead of cable, do they agree?

Other commercials of this series also have the same questions. They also need more reasonable logic and reasonable appeals. They have no discriminations to any groups of people so that at least they did not gross out people and may give them a deep impression to DIRECTV due to the absurd inference. However, this one is really a mistake.

Promotion Creativity

Among those excellent works of advertising, we found this IKEA Curtains Trailer from Ciloawards.com to be very creative and impressing. This ad was awarded the Silver pride in the Innovative Media category.

From our points of view, the reason why this ad won this award is because of its creativity. The Ikea In Hong Kong has found a very original but creative way to promote their range of curtains by using a movie screen in theaters. We are amazed by the creativity of this Advertising: simple, surprising, funny, and unforgettable. Audiences would never expect to see more than one curtains in a theatre before a movie. However, the audience began to be curious that ,when the music started why came another curtain, instead of the screen, and why it’s not a single colored curtain, the theater must be doing something wrong. And again, another colored curtain, again, another colored curtain, before finally comes the screen with a tagline “Ikea Present”. At this point, the audience began to laugh. They got the meaning finally and happily.

We think this ad was honored for its creative merit mostly. Marketing professionals of Ikea are very creative and they just found the Inherent Drama that involves innate characteristic of the product that can’t easily acquire without thinking provokingly. Plus Ikea picked a great place and right occasion to present its ads, not in TV, not on internet but on the theater. Audience did not feel abrupt but surprised and happy. In addition, as this ad brought good image of Ikea and positive feeling of the audience, it is safe to say that this ad would also improve Ikea’s ability to sell its curtains as well as other products. Although it’s difficult to know the cost of this advertisement, from our points of view, it might be more cost-effective than traditional ads on TV.

“Google Chrome Speed Tests” campaign won the silver price of CLIO Awards in 2011. The whole campaign includes a serious of “speed test” ads, banner ads on major site, social media ads and game associated with Chrome.

As for the “Speed test” ads, it include compared with potato, sound waves and lightning. What we want to talk about, at first, are that this commercial tell us the speed of Chrome in a very innovative way through beating sound and lightning. It even wins the sound and lightning, so other browsers, who can become its competitors? The answer is No! Second, the single appeal is important because customers may lose many points when they seeing a commercial. This ad of Google’s Chrome has only one appeal, the fastest speed. So we believe all of us will remember the Chrome is very faster than other browsers after we saw this commercial. At last, we want to talk about details. A good idea may not lead to success because it depends on how to implement this idea. In this ad, Google elaborately design three tests in order to make them more interesting and unforgettable. At the end of commercial, we can see this” The internet, Chrome fast.” Also to make sure it is convictive to customers, Google adds this” Test it for yourself” as the end of commercial. With these efforts they really got results what they want.

Google successfully make a serious of “speed test” ads to demonstrate how fast Chrome is. The ads itself is interesting enough to attract the eye of audiences and encourage them to search more detail about the speed test. An attractive advertisement was only the first step in the marketing campaign. After that, Google took banner advertisement to the Internet, covering the major sites such CNN, Digg, Twitter. And Also Google creatively inserted interesting game into its marketing campaign. These games were creatively designed, demonstrating the fast speed idea and attracting attention at meantime. In addition, Google successfully involved social media and YouTube into the campaign. “Speed test” not only attracted audience to find more detail, but also made Chrome a booming topic. Everyone was talking about the interesting test and game about Chrome at that time. The idea of “fastest Chrome” was just like virus, which quickly spread in the social network. With the help of social media and YouTube, Google successfully target the young generations who like cool ideas and like try new thing. The whole campaign precisely points out the main characteristic of Chrome---fast, cutting edge, and cool. And finally the campaign makes a large group of people aware of Chrome in a short time.

Superbowl Commercial-All for One

Superbowl Commercial-All for one http://www.superbowl-commercials.org/8281.html

The Hyundai advertisement “All for one” tells audiences a short story about how Alabama plant employees provide a little vocal encouragement to a designer. At the beginning, the designer wants to give up when meeting some difficulties. After seeing that, the manager, front-line workers, engineers, and executives appear consecutively, using powerful song to encourage the designer. Their beautiful voices, together with the powerful sound of machine, give audiences a strong feeling that Hyundai is a powerful company with employees full of passion. Also the advertisement transfers the idea of “never say impossible”.  Hyundai have a zero tolerance towards low quality products, and it always tries to provide better service and products to its customers.

People who has great attitude toward Hyundai and has low budget since compared with American car, Korean car is low pricing.

This advertisement transmits a message that the employee of HYUNDAI hang together. The entire employees make up a big family. They work together, eat together and inspire each other, and then they can overcome any difficulties. This kind of cohesion of employee is want the HUNDAI super bowl commercial wants to tell us. However, does it make sense for HUNDAI’s business? First, HUNDAI want to build a responsible brand image for employees on customers’ brand through this commercial. Most of customers of vehicles are employees of some companies, of course. If this brand image built successfully, the impression of HUNDAI of these customers will change better. Second, it wants to tell us if a company is so united, its products are also reliable. Third, we can find that the way they use to inspire the designer is very innovative and special. So this commercial tell us the HUNDAI is an innovative company, it never luck good new ideas and new productions.

I believe the messages are effective. For one, people can easily recognize the music in the advertisement (Gonna Fly Now from the movie “ROCKY”) and they can associate the music with this commercial. The music can encourage and inspire people to not give up and keep trying just as the employee in the advertising said “Let me give it another try!” Anyone who watched ROCKY can think of the classic scene that Rocky earned for his self-respect finally.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bztxd7BJSco

For another, Korean car used to be regarded as underdog, who has low quality and low functionality, but in this Ads, Hyundai showed to the audience that they are different now and it want to change people’s attitude towards its cars.

Moreover, Hyundai conveyed their way of working and doing things, “there is always a way, that’s just our way” means that nothing is possible for Hyundai.
